Hospital Services is the distribution arm of Kentucky Blood Center. The department continually receives and ships finished blood components coming into and out of the Lexington Donor Center. Hospital Services serves as the Blood Center’s main contact with hospital blood bank staff in hospitals and clinics spread across more than 60 counties throughout Central and Eastern Kentucky. We take orders, discuss inventory issues, follow up on rotating shorter dated expiring units and identify the final disposition on each and every unit.
Hospital Service Representatives are on the phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with our customers.
Inventory is held in our service area hospitals on a consignment basis. Our staff understands stock rotation and strives to always use shorter dated units first. Hospital Services aggressively helps to manage hospitals’ short dated inventory at out-of-town and in-town facilities to see that outdates are kept to a minimum.
Blood is a precious and sometimes scarce resource. Our challenge is managing the community’s blood supply in a fair and equitable and cost effective manner. We serve the patient, the hospital and the community.
