The Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) Reference Laboratory is an American Association of Blood Banks accredited Immunohematology Reference Laboratory. Reference Laboratory staff are experienced Medical Technologists trained to investigate and resolve complex serological problems.

Hospital blood banks and other healthcare facilities send patient samples to the Reference Laboratory for investigation.

Services include resolving blood typing problems, antibody identification, antigen typing and crossmatching blood components to send to healthcare facilities for transfusion. Reference Laboratory staff are available 24 hours a day seven days a week to discuss and assist hospitals and healthcare facilities with blood bank problem resolution.
