Volunteer Positions
Administrative Volunteer
- Purpose: Assist with clerical work in various Kentucky
Blood Center (KBC) departments.
- Responsibilities: Administrative volunteers perform a variety of tasks which can include
filing, stuffing packets with educational materials, data entry
and assisting with mailings.
- Qualifications: A detail-oriented individual willing to work as part of a team. Computer
skills not required, but can be helpful.
Blood Drive Coordinator
- Purpose: Blood Drive Coordinators take a lead role in saving lives.
Held throughout the Commonwealth, blood drives are the backbone of the blood supply,
providing more than 60 percent of the blood sent to hospital
patients.
- Responsibilities: Provide
a suitable location for a blood drive, publicize the drive,
recruit donors within the sponsoring organization and schedule
donation appointments.
- Qualifications: A well-organized individual who can work with a KBC Donor Recruitment
Specialist to review site requirements, develop an energetic team to promote the blood drive and devote the
time necessary to have a successful blood drive. The blood drive planning process begins
14 weeks prior to the actual blood drive.
Donor Café Host or Hostess / Donor Monitor
- Purpose: Monitor donor safety (training provided).
- Responsibilities: Greet donors and
serve refreshments to help replace fluids after their donations.
Observe donors for possible reactions and alert staff immediately
should a
reaction occur. Maintain a pleasant and comfortable
atmosphere for donors after their donations.
- Qualifications: A good Donor Café
Host or Hostess has a desire to help and excellent communication skills,
enjoys people and is dependable, friendly and attentive.
Hospital Services Driver
- Purpose: Transport blood and supplies
to and from donor centers, blood drives, labs and
hospitals.
- Responsibilities: Hospital
Services Drivers take a KBC vehicle on prescheduled routes twice during a four hour shift.
These volunteers also check the vehicle and
gas up as needed according to the transportation procedure.
- Qualifications: A Hospital
Services Driver must have a valid Kentucky driver's license, a good driving record
and the ability to lift 35 pounds. These volunteers will be trained in safe driving and blood borne barriers.
Special Event Greeter
- Purpose: Meet and greet volunteer blood donors.
- Responsibilities:
Maintain a professional, cheerful attitude while
welcoming donors.
- Qualifications: Special Event
Greeters should have a positive attitude, a desire to help, excellent communication skills
and the ability to provide confident, pleasant direction to
donors.
Special Event Volunteer
- Purpose: To represent the blood center at health fairs and other public events in order
to promote blood donation and volunteering with KBC.
- Responsibilities: Pick up event materials at KBC in advance and take to designated
event and/or meet other volunteers or KBC staff at event. Talk to passersby
about KBC and blood donations.
- Qualifications: Special Event
Volunteers should be familiar with common
donor questions and a variety of patient
stories, as well as general key messages, as defined by KBC.
