Whole blood donations are the most common type. One unit of whole blood can be separated into up to three components. Blood components include red blood cells, white blood cells, plasma, platelets and cryoprecipitate. Although the actual blood donation takes about 10 minutes, the entire visit generally takes about an hour, and includes registration, screening, donating and refreshments.
