2012 Stocking Stuffers from KBC Dec. 13, 2012

Giving Blood is Always Rewarding

LEXINGTON, Ky. – With the holidays right around the corner, Kentucky Blood Center is providing blood donors an opportunity to snag a stocking stuffer while also helping to shore up the blood supply.

Everyone who donates Dec.17 through Jan. 4 will receive either a $10 gift card or movie tickets. Those who give at blood drives will get the gift card. Donors at KBC’s four donor centers will receive two movie passes to an area cinema.

“While we need all blood types, O negative and other negative blood types are especially needed because those are the ones Kentucky hospitals reach for first,” said KBC President and CEO Bill Reed. “Winter weather is always on our minds, too. One snowfall or storm can negatively impact our blood supply because donors can’t get to us or we can’t get to them. It’s a good time to donate. We always need to be ready.”

To encourage winter blood donations, KBC will reward one lucky donor with an Entertainment Package, which consists of a 60-inch Smart TV with Wi-Fi, 3D Blue-ray entertainment center, PlayStation 3 with Call of Duty and a Triple Dipper slower cooker. Anyone who registers to donate through Feb. 1 is automatically entered.

To find a blood drive or schedule a donation, visit kybloodcenter.org or call 800.775.2522.

Blood donors must be 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health and meet additional requirements. Sixteen-year-old doors must also have a signed parental permission slip, which can be found at kybloodcenter.org. All donors must present a photo I.D.
