Beaumont Donor Center Expands Hours to Overcome Shortage Jan. 29, 2009

Open Sunday to Overcome Winter-Related Losses

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky Blood Center will be open prior to the Super Bowl on Sunday to increase donation opportunities following a shortage brought by severe weather. Twenty-two blood drives were canceled this week causing 680 expected pints of blood to go uncollected.

Hours this weekend at Kentucky Blood Center, 3121 Beaumont Centre Circle will be:

  • Friday: 8 a.m.–6 p.m.
  • Saturday: 7:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m.
  • Sunday: 7:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m.

Kentucky donors responded to the shortage message Wednesday, the first day in a week that donations exceed transfusions. Donations in Pikeville and Somerset were especially strong on Wednesday, helping to alleviate the canceled blood drives in central Kentucky.

More information is available at www.kybloodcenter.org or by calling 800-775-2522. The Kentucky Blood Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring a safe, adequate blood supply for patients at nearly 70 Kentucky hospitals and clinics in more than 60 counties.
