Winter Weather Hits Hard
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The wintry weather that is causing school cancellations, flight delays and slick roads, is also negatively impacting the community blood supply.
Since Monday, 11 Kentucky Blood Center blood drives have been canceled due to recent winter weather. More than 240 donations were lost Monday with another 30 already canceled for Tuesday.
Kentucky Blood Center officials expect blood donations to take a dip around the holidays when people are traveling, celebrating or on vacation. This weather, however, has caused a dip in donations much earlier than expected.
Although blood drives may be cancelled throughout the area, the Kentucky Blood Center donor centers are open for business and donors are urged to make a donation soon.
