New Donor Center Located in Same Strip Mall on West Cumberland Gap Parkway

CORBIN, Ky. – Kentucky Blood Center’s donor center in Corbin is getting an upgrade. Thanks to the strong commitment of donors in the Tri-County area, KBC has outgrown its original space and is moving in the same West Cumberland Gap Parkway strip mall.
The new space officially opened Wednesday morning and is accepting donors during its normal hours of operation (Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.).
The address of the new Tri-County Donor Center will technically change to 1466 West Cumberland Gap Parkway, but the same convenient location will remain in place with considerably more square footage to enhance operations. The move will increase square footage from 1,900 to 3,100. Operationally, that has allowed KBC to add two phlebotomy beds, a Trima machine for more available platelet appointments, and more storage and a bigger nurse’s station to better serve donors.
“Tri-County donors have shown a great dedication to saving local lives,” said Bill Reed, KBC’s president and CEO. “Outgrowing a space in just three years is a testament to the commitment donors in Southern Kentucky have made to providing local hospitals with a healthy blood supply. We are grateful to be a part of the community and look forward to many more years in our new space.”
Since opening in June 2022, the Tri-County Donor Center has registered more than 7,500 donors, collected more than 6,600 products and brought in nearly 800 first-time donors.
The Tri-County Donor Center is one of eight donor centers KBC operates in six cities. KBC also hosts more than 2,000 mobile drives a year.
KBC proud supplies all blood needs for more than 70 Kentucky hospitals, including Baptist Health Corbin and CHI Saint Joseph London.
To schedule an appointment at the Tri-County Donor Center any other KBC donor center or mobile drive, donors can visit kybloodcenter.org or call 800.775.2522. Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo I.D. and meet additional requirements. Appointments are preferred but walk-ins are welcome.
