Tennessee Wins But Kentucky Donors Finish Strong
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Another Big Blue Crush blood donor competition has passed with strong finishes for both sides. Although, the Kentucky Blood Center's donor were outpaced by Tennessee rivals, this week ranks as one of the best week's in the blood center's nearly 40-year history.
The turnout in both Kentucky and Tennessee was outstanding on Friday – the best day of the week for both the Kentucky Blood Center and its Knoxville counterpart, MEDIC Regional Blood Center. Kentucky saw 729 blood donors while Tennessee welcomed 753 livesavers. The five-day total and final score is Kentucky, 2,896; Tennessee, 3,266.
"This was one of the best weeks for blood donations in in our history,” said Jim Tinker, Kentucky Blood Center spokesperson. “Kentucky blood donors have helped guarantee a reliable blood supply for Kentucky patients during the holiday season when blood donations typically drop.”
The Kentucky Blood Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring a safe, adequate blood supply for 67 Kentucky hospitals and clinics thanks to generous blood donors in 62 counties.
