Blood Center Expands Hours Amid Shortage Aug. 8, 2007

Lexington Center Open Additional Two Hours Rest of Week

LEXINGTON, Ky. – In response to the crippling heat wave and a severe blood shortage, the Kentucky Blood Center’s Lexington Donor Center has expanded its hours. The donor center at 3121 Beaumont Centre Circle will be open an additional two hours in order to allow blood donors to come later in the evening when temperatures have cooled.

The donor center will be open from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week (Aug. 8, 9 and 10).

The blood shortage that has hit Kentucky continues. The Kentucky Blood Center reports that there is less than a half day’s supply of Type-O blood at the center.

Those wanting to donate blood can call 1-800-775-2522 or visit kybloodcenter.org to schedule an appointment to give blood.
