Twenty-five years ago, the United States faced some of its darkest hours with the attacks on 9/11. From that evil, donors showed compassion for their fellow Americans and patriotism for their country by flooding blood centers to give blood and ensure victims of the attack had the lifesaving products they needed. 

On the 25th anniversary, Kentucky Blood Center is asking donors to step up again and give blood Friday, Sept. 11 to assist with another crisis – a local and national blood shortage created by a summer of decreasing donations and rising transfusions.

All donors who give blood at a KBC donor center will receive a commemorative “Never Forget” T-shirt. KBC will also make a $10 donation to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation for every 9/11 donor center blood donation. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation honor’s the sacrifice of firefighter Stephen Siller by providing mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first-responder families with young children, and by building specially adapted smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders. 

Most KBC donor centers are open Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Please check specific locations below or call 800.775.2522 to schedule your appointment.

Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good health, show a photo I.D. and meet additional requirements. Appointments are preferred but walk-ins are welcome.
