Big Blue Slam 2021 final results: Kentuky defeats Florida with 1,405 donors to 1,344.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky finished strong despite a blustery weather day to win the 14th annual Big Blue Slam – Kentucky Blood Center’s annual competituion with LifeSouth Community Blood Center and Florida Gator fans. The final score was 1,405 donors for Kentucky and 1,344 donors for Kentucky. Big Blue Nation now leads the overall series 8-6.

Big Blue Slam helps to encourage blood donors when winter weather and flu season can hamper donations. Friday saw 275 Kentucky donors roll up their sleeves, while Florida finished strong with 281 donors.

“With today’s weather, we were concerned about turnout,”  said Mandy Brajuha, Vice President of External Relations. “The Big Blue faithful didn’t let us down though and we were able to bring home the win for the second year in a row.”

Fans who missed this event are still encouraged to donate blood as a critical blood shortage continues to persist across the country. KBC donor centers, which are open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturdays, are listed below:
