Lucky Donor Ready to Plan Dream Vacation
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Somerset resident Melissa Lancaster is the August winner of Kentucky Blood Center’s Give & Go promotion.
One of more than 8,400 August blood donors, Lancaster was the lucky donor randomly selected to receive a $5,000 AAA travel voucher to use to plan the vacation of her dreams.
She will be presented with the voucher at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 16 at the Somerset Donor Center.
Lancaster hadn’t given blood in two or three years. Her iron was always too low. One Tuesday morning in August, though, she decided to give it another try.
“I had a strong urge that day to give blood,” Lancaster said. “Something told me I need to give blood today.”
After going through the screening process and the mini-physical that all donors receive, Lancaster was delighted to learn her iron level was high enough to donate. She left the Somerset Donor Center feeling good about her donation.
Of course, the story gets even better because she and her family are now dreaming of the perfect vacation getaway.
