LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky donors showed they believe big in blue by defeating Florida in the second annual Big Blue Slam, 1,543 to 1,481.

Friday’s turnout of 351 donors was the biggest of the week for Kentucky Blood Center. Florida’s LifeSouth Community Blood Center had 288 donors on the last day of the competition.

Everyone who registers to donate at Kentucky Blood Center during March is eligible to win a ticket package to the NCAA Final Four in Indianapolis.

Kentucky Blood Center has donor centers in Lexington, Somerset and Pikeville, as well as blood drives throughout the region. To make an appointment to donate blood or find the closest blood drive to you, logon to www.kybloodcenter.org or call 800.775.2522.

Donors must be at least 16 years old (with parental permission), weigh 110 pounds and be in general good health.

The Kentucky Blood Center, serving more than half of Kentucky, is a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring a safe, adequate blood supply for patients at nearly 70 Kentucky hospitals and clinics. KBC relies on volunteers to collect 400 pints of blood per day to meet area patients’ needs. Over the last year KBC distributed nearly 130,000 blood and blood products.
