Lexington – Kentucky finished the week strong and defeated Florida, 1,733 to 1,463, in the 11th annual Big Blue Slam. Kentucky now leads the series 6-5.

“Thank you to all who took the time to donate this week,” said Martha Osborne, Vice President of Marketing for Kentucky Blood Center. “Your generosity will definitely make a difference in a local patient’s life. And with winter weather coming, it’s good to know we are prepared.”

Big Blue Slam is the 11th annual blood battle between the Cats and the Gators and KBC and LifeSouth Community Blood Centers in Gainesville to see which fans can donate the most blood at a time when winter weather and flu season can hamper donations.

Blood donors must be at least 17-years-old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo I.D. and meet additional requirements. Sixteen-year-old donors must have a signed parental permission slip, which can be found at kybloodcenter.org.

Walk-ins are welcome. To schedule a donation or find other donation locations, visit kybloodcenter.org or call 800.775.2522.
