S&S Tire Rewards Six Kentucky Charities

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Six Kentucky charities were rewarded recently for recruiting blood donors in May. S&S Tire presented checks at Kentucky Blood Center to the charities who won the fifth annual S&S Tire $15,000 Charity Challenge. 

More than 1,400 people gave blood in May in the name of the 30 participating charities, and 252 of those donors gave for the first time. The blood donated in the name of the charities resulted in more than 1,100 life-saving blood products for Kentucky patients,

Representatives from S&S Tire awarded $3,500 to the top winners in each region (Lexington, Pikeville and Somerset) and $1,500 to the runner up in each region. After this year, S&S Tire will have generously awarded $70,000 to Kentucky charities.

Lexington Region
1st place – Lexington Habitat for Humanity
2nd place – American Cancer Society – Fayette County

Somerset Region
1st place – Andy Adkins Memorial Scholarship Fund
2nd place – American Cancer Society - Relay for Life of Pulaski 

Pikeville Region
1st place – Christian Appalachian Project
2nd place – Whitesburg Bike Nite

Charities from more 15 counties participated in the competition.

Kentucky Blood Center (KBC), the largest FDA regulated blood bank in Kentucky, is a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring a safe, adequate blood supply for patients at nearly 70 Kentucky hospitals and clinics in more than 60 counties. KBC relies on volunteers to donate 400 pints of blood per day to meet area patients’ needs. Over the last year KBC distributed nearly 130,000 blood components. At this time KBC is especially in need of donors with negative blood types – A-, B-, AB- and O-.
