KBC Celebrate 50 Years of Saving Lives May 18, 2018

Blood Donors Save Lives, Get Entered to Win New SUV

Kentucky Blood Center is giving away a 2018 Toyota 4Runner this summer to celebrate 50 years of saving Kentucky lives.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky Blood Center is celebrating 50 years of saving Kentucky lives, and to commemorate that special anniversary, KBC is giving away its biggest summer prize ever – a 2018 Toyota 4Runner.

KBC, which was founded by the Fayette County Medical Society in 1968 to centralize the area’s blood-banking efforts, now provides services in 90 Kentucky counties from Pikeville to Paducah, with donor centers in Lexington, Louisville, Pikeville and Somerset.

“Although KBC was initially created to serve Lexington hospitals, we’ve grown into a larger blood bank, but one thing hasn’t changed. We’re still local, and blood donated with us stays in Kentucky to help Kentucky patients,” said Bill Reed, KBC’s President and CEO.

“Because this year marks our 50th anniversary, and knowing that summer is typically a slower time for blood donation, we’re giving away our biggest prize ever to one lucky blood donor, and it’s easy to get entered,” said Reed.

Everyone (18 years of age and older) who registers to donate blood May 21 through Sept. 7 will be automatically enrolled in the giveaway.

Donors may give at any KBC mobile blood drive or donor center. KBC donor centers are listed below.

To schedule a blood donation or find a donation location, visit kybloodcenter.org or call 800.775.2522. Walk-ins are also welcome.

Blood donors must be at least 17-years-old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo I.D. and meet additional requirements. Sixteen-year-old donors must have a signed parental permission slip, which can be found at kybloodcenter.org.
