KBC CEO Joins National Blood Banking Board April 6, 2010

Reed Named Director of ABC Board of Directors

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky Blood Center CEO William Reed has joined the board of directors of America’s Blood Centers.

ABC selected Mr. Reed to serve on the volunteer, blood-banking-industry-related Board. Mr. Reed will serve a three-year term as a director for this national organization, which is made up of 77 blood banks that serve more than 3,500 hospitals in the United States and Canada.

Representing  77 blood centers in the U.S. and Canada, ABC members collect more than eight million units of blood annually (about half of the U.S. blood supply). ABC is North America’s network of non-profit community blood centers which are licensed and regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

About Kentucky Blood Center

The Kentucky Blood Center, serving more than half of Kentucky’s counties, is a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring a safe, adequate blood supply for patients at nearly 70 Kentucky hospitals and clinics. KBC relies on volunteers to collect 400 units of blood per day to meet area patients’ needs. Over the last year KBC distributed nearly 130,000 units of blood and blood products.
