KBC Offering $20 Amazon Gift Cards on Wednesday Aug. 15, 2023

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Just because kids are back in school doesn’t mean summer fun is over. Kentucky Blood Center’s “Save Our Summer” campaign continues Wednesday with another “Donor Appreciation Day” and another chance to pick up a gift card.

All donors who give blood Wednesday, Aug. 16 at a KBC donor center will walk away with a $20 Amazon gift card.

KBC operates eight donor centers in six cities (Lexington, Louisville, Corbin, Frankfort, Pikeville and Somerset). All eight will be open Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for donors to take advantage of the offer. KBC’s Donor Appreciation Days, an extension of the nonprofit’s summerlong Save Our Summer campaign, are taking place on days throughout the summer that have typically yielded inadequate collection numbers. The summer months are traditionally tough on blood centers because of decreased donor turnout and consistent-to-increased transfusion frequency.

One in four people will need a blood transfusion in their lifetime. KBC and its donors meet the statewide need by supplying blood to more than 70 hospitals in Kentucky.

Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo I.D. and meet additional requirements. Sixteen-year-old donors must have a signed parental permission slip, which can be found at kybloodcenter.org.
