KBC to Present Gift to God's Pantry Food Bank Aug. 20, 2013

The Food Bank to Receive Gift from Generous Blood Donors

God's Pantry Food Bank

LEXINGTON, Ky. – More than 1,300 blood donors not only gave the gift of life this summer but generously provided food for hungry Kentuckians, too.

When they gave blood in July, these donors opted not to take their Kentucky Blood Center thank you gift. KBC, in turn, donated the value of those items to God’s Pantry Food Bank, a gift which totaled $6,918. The value of a KBC T-shirt, for instance, can feed someone for nearly four days.

“We’re pleased that this annual partnership with the Kentucky Blood Center continues to benefit so many in Central and Eastern Kentucky,” said God’s Pantry Food Bank CEO Marian Guinn “With a figure of six thousand dollars in donations we can turn that into over $60,000 in distributed food to our 50 county service area.”

KBC will present the check to God’s Pantry Food Bank on Jaggie Fox Way at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9.

“Hunger Action Month is in full swing, so the gift from Kentucky Blood Center comes at a heightened time in our community both locally and nationally, as we try to bring to the forefront the hunger epidemic that touches many neighborhoods in Central and Eastern Kentucky,” Guinn said.

“We have very generous donors,” ,” said KBC president and CEO Bill Reed. “They not only rolled up their sleeves to help Kentucky patients this summer, they also helped to feed hungry Kentuckians.”
