Kentucky Blood Center Celebrates Opening of New Donor Center in Kentucky Derby Festival Style
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Saving lives just got more convenient in Kentuckiana with the opening of the new Kentucky Blood Center donor center in the Hillview area off Preston Highway on Antle Drive.
KBC’s new facility is located at 5406 Antle Drive, behind Speedway and across Antle Drive from Walmart.
To celebrate the new Hillview Donor Center, KBC is hosting a grand-opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony there at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 13. The Kentucky Derby Festival is helping with the fun, providing Derby Festival treats, such as funnel cakes, popcorn and Derby Pie. The new Derby Festival mascot will also be on hand for hugs and selfies.
“Our mission is to save local lives. We are excited to be opening another donor center in Louisville. It will give those who work and live in the southern Jefferson and Bullitt County areas a convenient opportunity to save lives,” said Bill Reed, KBC President and CEO. “This is also a great way to help celebrate our 50th anniversary of serving Kentucky.”
Those who donate at the new Hillview center, or at KBC’s other Louisville location on Shelbyville Road in Middletown, will receive a stainless KBC tumbler and a Pegasus Pin. Through April 15, they will also be automatically entered to win a VIP Thunder Over Louisville Prize Pack, including four tickets and parking.
Both Louisville donor centers are open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They are closed Sunday and Monday. Appointments can be made by visiting kybloodcenter.org or calling 800.775.2522, ext. 3758. Walk-ins are also welcome.
Blood donors must be at least 17-years-old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health. Donors must also show a photo I.D. with first and last name, like a state-issued driver’s license. Sixteen-year-old donors must have a signed parental permission slip, found at kybloodcenter.org.
