UK Fans Battle UofL Fans in Blood Donation Contest Aug. 20, 2008

Donor Might Win 2009 Toyota Camry

LEXINGTON, Ky. – What color do you bleed?

That’s the question being asked of fans for the University of Kentucky Wildcats and University of Louisville Cardinals. Fans and alumni from across the Commonwealth can vote for their favorite team through blood donations.

Led by each university’s alumni association, the annual Battle of the Bluegrass Blood Donor Challenge calls for anyone donating blood to the Kentucky Blood Center Aug. 4 – Aug. 28 to “vote” for their favorite team.

Blood donations can be made at the donor centers in Lexington, Somerset and Pikeville or at one of many blood drives.

The score as of Aug. 19 was: UK: 4,426; UofL: 3,182.

The competition is open to all blood donors. Donors who give to the Kentucky Blood Center will receive a commemorative Battle of the Bluegrass competition shirt and will be entered into a drawing to win a 2009 Toyota Camry LE.

The winner of the car will be drawn by a randomized computer drawing from the list of individuals who attempt to donate whole blood, red blood cells, platelets or plasma to the Kentucky Blood Center between July 21 and Sept. 21. Although the winner must be at least 18 years old, 17-year-olds can donate blood and 16-year-olds can donate blood with parental consent. Complete rules are available at the KBC website: www.kybloodcenter.org.

Those wanting to donate blood can call 1-800-775-2522 or visit kybloodcenter.org to find a donation opportunity and schedule an appointment to give blood.

The Kentucky Blood Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring a safe, adequate blood supply for patients in 67 hospitals and clinics thanks to generous blood donors in 62 counties.
