The annual WKYT Blood Drive is set this year for Tuesday, Aug. 25. The 2026 drive, which will be in honor of First Responders, will take place at KBC's five Central Kentucky locations (Beaumont, Andover, Frankfort, Somerset or Tri-County).

Kentucky Blood recently celebrated the first anniversary of a partnership with four local emergency medical service teams that has strengthened emergency response capabilities in Central Kentucky. With local EMS vehicles equipped with whole blood from KBC donors for transfusion, emergency medical technicians have been able to take immediate action to life-threatening medical conditions that has improved patient survival rates who have experienced physical trauma.

The EMS partnership is a part of a wider operation at KBC to save local lives daily. KBC provides lifesaving blood products to more than 70 hospitals in Kentucky. One in four patients will need a blood tranfusion in their lifetime for a variety of medical treatments. Blood cannot be manufactured, so the only way to ensure blood is available for local patients is through the generosity of donors.

KBC donors who save lives never walk away empty-handed, but those who give blood Aug. 25 will receive special treats as a thank you for boosting the blood supply.

Donors on Aug. 25 will receive the following:

  • Free entrée coupon from Chick-fil-A
  • Cookies from Donut Days
  • "Local Lifesaver" hat
  • KBC shirt of choice

All items are while supplies last.

Donations at this drive will help boost the summer blood supply, which suffers in the summer because of an increase in transfusions during trauma season and a decrease in donations.
