KBC, LEX18, Salvation Army and Red Mile Partner for Blood Drive
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky Blood Center, LEX18, The Salvation Army and the Red Mile are teaming up to provide the community an opportunity to be Holiday Heroes to two Kentucky organizations this holiday season.
By donating blood, donors can save the life of a Kentucky patient, and then Kentucky Blood Center will give a financial contribution to The Salvation Army to help a neighbor in need.
The Holiday Hero Blood Drive at the Red Mile is 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 23, and Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) bloodmobiles will be conveniently parked at each entrance.
Donors will receive two movie passes, a $10 Free Play and a chance to win a free Steak Night Dinner from the Red Mile. There will also be drop-off boxes for Salvation Army Food Angel donations. After the blood drive, KBC will make a financial contribution in the name of each blood donor to The Salvation Army.
“The need for blood doesn’t take a holiday, especially in December. That’s when blood donations can decline due to travel and other holiday activities that keep many regular donors away. However, cancer treatments, premature births, car accidents, blood diseases and surgeries continue,” said Martha Osborne, KBC’s Executive Director of Marketing and Recruitment.
No appointments are necessary at the blood drive.
Blood donors must be 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo I.D. and meet additional requirements. Sixteen-year-old donors must have a signed parental permission slip, which can be found at kybloodcenter.org.
